Q: What is the difference between a health coach and a nutritionist or dietician?
A: A certified Health Coach is a trained guide and mentor who empowers clients to take control of their health and goals, with a strong focus on behavioral choices to develop strategies to create real, lasting life changes. Common areas where a Health Coach may help include weight management, food cravings, sleep, energy, stress management, digestion and how all of these are inter-related. Nutrition, physical activity, relationships, lifestyle, and other areas of life are considered to play important roles in shaping a client’s health and wellness. A Health Coach does not take the place of a medical practitioner by diagnosing or treating, rather they complement all health professionals – including dieticians, nutritionists, nurses, doctors, and mental health professionals.
Q: My doctor says I need to ___________ (eat better, exercise more, get more sleep, reduce stress) to help with my current health issues but I don’t know where to start and I’m overwhelmed, what should I do?
A: Finding support for a new way of living is key, you don’t need to struggle through it alone! That can just create more stress and frustration. A certified health coach can work with you to identify and clarify goals and then find a unique step-by-step approach to make easy sustainable changes. As a health coach I work in conjunction with other health care practitioners who can also help support you along way. These include doctors, nurses, naturopaths, acupuncturists, massage therapists, nutritionists, mental health professionals, and many others.
Q: I’m on a tight budget but would really like some support with my health and wellness, can you still help me?
A: YES! My programs are not “one size fits all.” Contact me to find out about my different offerings and where your budget fits. Your health is one of the most important things in your life, we can work together to make it happen.
Q: How do I find a health coach that is the right fit for me?
A: This is one of the main reasons I (and many other coaches) offer a free initial consultation. It is so important you feel comfortable talking with the person and you don’t feel forced into anything. Remember, health coaching is all about YOUR health and wellness goals, not theirs. Spend some time getting a feel for them, check out their qualifications, and ask questions. I truly want what is best for your health and I am ALWAYS happy to give out recommendations for other coaches who might suite your needs or wants better, no hard feelings ever.
